Very recently, I created a Microsoft account using my Yahoo email address and have been using the new Microsoft account to sign-in to Windows 10 since then. For those who are curious, you can use your Gmail or Yahoo Mail address to create Microsoft account on Windows 10.

Finish setting up your account notification

The other day, while exploring the new Office 2016, I saw Finish setting up your account notification with “We need to verify that this email address is yours. Check your email for the message from the Microsoft account team” message.

Clicking the notification launched Settings app as well as Verify email dialog with “We sent an email to [email protected] to make sure you own it. Please check your inbox and enter the security code below to finish setting up your Microsoft account” message.

Basically, if you’re using a Microsoft account to sign-in to Windows 10 and haven’t verified your email yet, you will get this Finish setting up your account notification.

Although you can ignore this notification, it’s a good idea to verify your email.

To verify your account email address, here is what you need to do:

Step 1: On your Windows 10 PC, open the Settings app by clicking the Settings icon on the Start menu or using Windows + I hotkey.

Step 2: Once the Settings app is launched, click Accounts (your account, sync settings, work, family).

Step 3: Click Your info. If your account is not verified yet, you will see You need to verify your identity and Verify link.

Step 4: Click Verify link to see Verify email dialog.

Step 5: Open your web browser, sign-in to your email account which you have been using to sign-in to Windows 10 to find an email from Microsoft with Verify your email address as subject.

Note that when you create a new Microsoft account, Microsoft sends the verification code to verify your account. If you can’t find the email, please use the search box.

Open the email and note down the security code.

Step 6: Enter the security code in Verify email dialog that you launched in Step 4 and then click the Next button. That’s it!

The Finish setting up your account notification asking to verify your email account should not show up in the future. Hope this helps!
