Every Solid State Drive (SSD) manufacturer pushes out firmware update to address technical issues, bugs, and improve SSD performance. Upgrading an SSD’s firmware is not as difficult as it sounds. In fact, updating the firmware of a Corsair SSD is as simple as updating just any other Windows application.

Just like other major SSD manufacturers, Corsair has also been offering a free software to check, download and update the firmware. In fact, it also helps you know your SSD model, serial number, and schedule TRIM. In this guide, we’re going to show you how to update the firmware of a Corsair SSD with the help of Corsair SSD Toolbox in a few minutes.

In order to update your Corsair SSD firmware, you need follow the given below instructions.

NOTE: Your SSDs firmware can be updated only when the SSD controller is in AHCI mode. Make sure that the controller is in AHCI mode before beginning to update the firmware. You can change the controller by rebooting your PC and accessing BIOS.

NOTE 2: The tool that we are using here to update the firmware currently supports Corsair Neutron series, Force Series GS, Force Series GT, and Force 3 series. If you are using an earlier version of Corsair SSD, you will need to take the help of some other tools to update the firmware.

Step 1: Before getting started, it’s important to backup all data from your SSD. You can either manually copy all files or use available free tools to backup them to a safe location.

Step 2: Next step is to close all running applications on your PC. We also recommend you connect your notebook or netbook to a power source and charge it 100%, as an interrupted update might corrupt your SSD.

Step 3: Let’s start the actual procedure by downloading Corsair SSD Toolbox software. Corsair SSD Toolbox is a free software to optimize your SSD drive and update the firmware. Once downloaded, run the setup file, and complete the installation by following simple on-screen instructions.

Step 4: Launch SSD Toolbox. By default SSD Toolbox shows your SSD information and also an option to check for firmware update. If you can’t see drive information and Update firmware option, simply click on the Drive Information tab in the left-pane to see those options.

Step 5: Click Firmware Update button to start checking for the latest firmware version. If there is an update available, you’ll see the following dialog box with an option to download the update.

And if there is no update available or if your SSD model isn’t supported, you’ll see a message saying “No firmware update was found for this drive”.

Click on the Download button to start downloading the firmware update.

Step 5: Once the firmware is downloaded onto your PC, you’ll see an option to apply and update the firmware. Click the Apply button to start updating the firmware. It shouldn’t take more than a minute to complete the update. That’s it!
