It seems that Windows 10 has done wonders with the new OS version but Microsoft has not yet released all the good features. This tutorial will show you what tweaks you need to use in the operating system’s UI in order to access all its features (some of them hideen) in the shortest time possible.

As a side note, you will have to be very careful when proceeding with the tutorial below. If your want to have access to these new features you need to modify some Registry keys and I suppose I don’t have to tell you that if you modify something else by mistake in the Registry Editor window, this might damage your operating system.

How to unlock secret settings in Windows 10

A complete redesign of the system tray clock/ the calendar

  • Move the mouse cursor over to the lower left side of the screen.

  • Right click on the Start button and left click or tap on the “Run” feature.

  • Note: You can also Press and hold the “Windows” button and the “R” button.

  • In the run dialog box write the following: “regedit” without the quotes.

  • Press the Enter button on the keyboard or left click on the “OK” button in the Run window.

  • Now you have the Registry Editor window in front of you.

  • On the left side panel left click to open the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE”

  • In the folder above left click to open the “Software” folder.

  • In the “Software” folder left click to open the “Microsoft” folder.

  • In the “Microsoft” folder left click to open the “Windows” folder.

  • In the “Windows” folder left click on the “CurrentVersion” folder.

  • In the “CurrentVersion” folder left click or tap on the “ImmersiveShell” folder.

  • Now on the right side right click on an open space.

  • Left click or tap on the “New” option.

  • Choose from the list “DWORD(32-bit) Value”

  • Name the DWORD as follows: “UseWin32TrayClockExperience” without the quotes.

  • Close the Registry Editor and reboot the system and you will have a new system tray clock and calendar.

Unlock a new logon screen

  • Open the Registry Editor as you did above.
  • On the right side left click or tap to open the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” folder.
  • In the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” folder left click or tap on “SOFTWARE” folder.
  • In the “SOFTWARE” folder left click or tap on the “Microsoft” folder.
  • In the “Microsoft” folder left click to open “Windows” folder.
  • In the “Windows” folder left click to open “CurrentVersion” folder.
  • In the “CurrentVersion” folder left click to open “Authentification” folder.
  • In “Authentification” folder left click on the “LogonUI” folder.
  • In the “LogonUI” folder left click to open “TestHooks” folder.
  • Now on the right side double click on the “Treshold” key.
  • Change the value for that key to “1”.
  • Save the changes and reboot the operating system and you are done.

Note: To revert back the logon screen, change the value of the “Treshold” key to “0”.

Switch back to a previous Start menu version

  • Open the Registry Editor as you did in above.

  • On the right side panel left click to open the “HKEY_CURRENT_USER” folder.

  • In the “HKEY_CURRENT_USER” folder left click on “Software”

  • In the “Software” folder left click on “Microsoft” to open it.

  • In the “Microsoft” folder left click on “Windows” folder.

  • In the “Windows” folder left click on “CurrentVersion” folder.

  • In the “CurrentVersion” folder left click on “Explorer” to open.

  • In the “Explorer” folder left click on “Advanced” folder to open.

  • Now on the right side panel right click on an open space and left click on the “New” option.

  • Select from there “DWORD (32-bit)”

  • Name the DWORD as follows: “EnableXamlStartMenu”.

  • Save the changes and reboot your Windows 10 Technical Preview.

  • You should have now the old Start menu.

Change File Explorer from Quick Access to This PC

First method:

  • Open the “Options” feature in File Explorer.
  • Choose the “This PC” feature that is situated right next to “Open File Explorer to:”
  • Save your change and close the File Explorer.
  • You should then have the “This PC” feature activated.

Second method:

Control Cortana using your voice

  • Left click or tap on the Cortana icon situated on the taskbar of your Windows 10 operating system.
  • Left click on the “Hamburger” button situated in the upper left side of the menu.
  • Left click or tap on the “Settings” feature.
  • Enable the “Let Cortana respond when you say ‘Hey Cortana’” feature.
  • Disable the Search bar situated in the taskbar of your Windows 10:
  • Left click or tap on the taskbar.
  • From the Search feature select the “Disable” option.

Enable hidden Windows 10 features with Mach 2
