The taskeng.exe pop-up goes in front of other active windows interrupting user activity.

As a quick reminder, Taskeng.exe is a task scheduler responsible for tracking the tasks set to run by the user. The task scheduler only pops them up when necessary.

Why does taskeng keeps popping up?

Taskeng.exe pop-ups can be triggered by malware infections in which case repairing the issue is imperative.

If the pop-up itself is accompanied by a message saying Windows cannot find the .exe file, this is a clear indication the alerts are triggered by a virus. Make sure you typed the file name correctly, and then try again.

Next, we present you a few methods for fixing the taskeng.exe pop-up issue.

4 methods to block taskeng.exe alerts

  • Start your Windows in Safe Mode and perform a virus scan
  • Perform a clean boot
  • Block User_Feed_Synchronization
  • Block OfficeBackgroundTaskHandlerRegistration

1. Start your PC in Safe Mode and perform a virus scan

First off, start by opening Windows in Safe Mode.

Next, you should perform a virus scan using Microsoft Safety Scanner which you can download directly from Microsoft’s website.

Be aware that deleting the infected files may cause data loss.

2. Perform a clean boot

Performing a clean boot gives you the possibility to find the root-causes of your issues.

To complete this process, follow these steps:

  • Right click on the Start button, then click Search
  • Type msconfig in the search bar and press Enter
  • Select Services and then check the box next to Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all
  • Go to the Startup section and click Open Task Manager
  • Select each program that you suspect of being corrupted, and then select Disable
  • Exit the Task Manager and click OK on the System Configuration window
  • After completing all these tasks, restart the computer and check if anything changed.

If this does not work, go back to the Services tab and enable all the disabled programs.
