With Windows 11, Microsoft introduced an all-new Start menu. The new Start menu opens at the center of the screen instead of the left and displays a search bar at the top followed by pinned apps and recommendations section.

The Pinned apps section displays pinned apps in three rows. Similarly, the Recommended section shows newly installed apps and recently opened files in three rows.

Many users want to see more apps in the Pinned apps section and reduce or Remove the recommended section. Up until now, there was no provision to show a fourth row or more apps in the Pinned apps section. But that changed with build 22509.

Starting with Windows 11 build 22509 (currently available to Windows Insiders only), users can configure the Start menu to show an extra row of apps in the Pinned section or an extra row of files in the Recommended section.

While an option to replace the Recommended section with the Pinned apps would have been great, the new customization option will make a lot of users happy.

Here is how to show more apps in the Pinned apps section of the Windows 11 Start menu.

NOTE: This method no way hides or removes the Recommended section from the Windows 11 Start menu.

Show more app rows in Windows 11 Start menu

Step 1: Open the Settings app. Go to Personalization > Start page.

Step 2: In the Layout section, select the More pinned apps option to see an additional row of apps in the Start menu Pinned apps section.

Step 1: Navigate to Settings > Personalization > Start page.

Step 2: Here, select More recommendations to see an extra row of recently opened files in the Recommended section of Windows 11 Start menu. This also means that the Pinned apps will be restricted to two rows only.

Open the Start menu to see an extra row of recently opened files.
