How to Screen Mirror to Your TV on Roku

Even if you don’t own a smart television, there are many great ways to stream different subscription services to your television. One way to do this is using a Roku box or streaming stick.

These not only allow you to watch all your favorite streaming services from your TV, but also allow you to mirror different devices to your television.

You can mirror photos, videos, TV shows, and other media you can only access on your phone or tablet to a bigger screen using Roku’s screen mirroring feature.

Many people do not understand the difference between screen mirroring and casting. The main difference is that screen mirroring allows you to share your device’s entire screen, while casting uses the same app on two devices to play content on a larger screen.

Unlike with casting, you do not need to use an app to screen mirror with Roku. You can do so directly from the Roku home screen. But, before you can do so, you’ll need to enable screen mirroring on your Roku device.

How to Activate Screen Mirroring on Roku

To begin the screen mirroring process, you must confirm that your Roku device allows it. Most newer Roku devices offer a screen mirroring feature, but you can find out for sure by following the steps below:

  • Press the Home button on your Roku remote to open the home screen.Navigate to the side menu, then scroll down and select “Settings.”From the Settings screen, select “System.”Select “Screen Mirroring.”Next, select “Screen Mirroring Mode.” Choose either “Prompt” or “Always Allow” to enable screen mirroring.

If you choose “Prompt,” your Roku device will ask you to confirm each time you want to screen mirror. Selecting “Always Allow” will allow you to automatically start screen mirroring each time you connect a device.

Screen Mirroring with Different Devices

You can use many devices to screen mirror to your Roku device, and each of them requires slightly different steps to begin screen mirroring.

The good news is that Roku will allow you to pair with most devices. You just need to follow the correct steps to complete the pairing.

Screen Mirroring to Roku with iOS Devices

You can screen mirror from an iOS device to your Roku, but there are a few limitations. First, your Roku and your iOS devices both need to be compatible.

This means you need a Roku that runs on OS 7.7, and your iOS device should run on version 9.4 or higher. Then, you will need to turn on AirPlay for both devices.

To enable AirPlay on your Roku device, open your Settings menu and select “Apple AirPlay & HomeKit.” If you do not see this option in the side menu, your Roku is incompatible.

If you do see this option, select it and ensure AirPlay is enabled by toggling the option to “On.” To complete the process, pair your iOS device with your Roku through the following steps:

  • Open your iOS device’s Control Center.Look for the AirPlay icon at the top of the media player tab and select it.Find your Roku device under the list of available devices.A code will appear on your TV. Enter this on your iOS device when prompted.

After completing these steps, your iOS device will begin mirroring to your Roku. When you’re ready to disconnect, just tap the AirPlay icon on your device again.

  • Go to your device’s settings. Find the “Share and Connect” option.Choose the screen mirror feature on your device.Find your Roku device on the list of options. Press “Allow.”
