Not long ago, avid Instagram users could utilize the app’s rewind feature to reverse the audio and video of their Reels. This was a popular customization method that helped give these videos an element of uniqueness that most standard Instagram posts lacked.

To reverse audio on Instagram, you’ll need to:

  • Copy the link for the Reel or post you want to edit.Paste the link into Reel Downloader.Download the necessary third-party app.Upload and reverse audio.

Unfortunately, Instagram recently removed the rewind feature, eliminating the option to reverse audio within the application. This has left Instagramers wondering how else they can achieve this effect. Keep reading to find out how you can still reverse Instagram audio.

Select and Copy Your Desired Reel/Post

For the sake of this guide, we’re going to assume that you’ve already created a Reel or post that you intend to edit through audio reversing.

If you haven’t made one, do so before starting this guide.

We also suggest looking over the rest of the steps listed here and comparing this process to the alternative mentioned at the end to determine which is preferable to you before filming.

The first step of this process is to open your Instagram application (or its official website) and log in to your account. Once inside, locate the Reel/post you intend to edit.

As we mentioned previously, there is no current feature on Instagram that will allow you to reverse a Reel’s audio within the application.

Because of this, the next easiest method is to download and save your Instagram Reel to your device and then edit it using a third-party video editing application.

To do this, you’ll first need to copy your Reel’s unique link by selecting the “more” icon (shown as three dots) located under the “send” icon (appears as a paper plane). You’ll then select the “copy link” option.

Now that you have the link for the Instagram Reel you intend to edit, you’ll need to download and save it to your device using the Instagram Downloader.

All you have to do for this step is to open the Instagram Downloader using the link provided above and then paste the link you copied from your Instagram Reel into the box provided.

After you’ve done this, simply select the “Download” option and wait for the process to complete (it should only take a few seconds).

When you see that the link was successfully downloaded, check your device’s video storage for the Instagram Reel’s file. Before proceeding to the next step, you’ll need to confirm that it was properly saved onto your device.

Download a Third-Party Video Editing Application

There are several ways you can reverse the audio on an Instagram Reel once you have it saved to your device.

In our experience, the easiest and most effective method is to upload the saved file to a third-party video editing application.

Arguably the best and most popular third-party video editing application for this specific process is InShot. However, there are alternatives, such as EZgif, that you can use instead.

Once you’ve decided which app you prefer, go ahead and download it onto your device and open it after the download process is complete.

Upload and Reverse the Audio on Your Saved Instagram Reel

By this point, you’re nearly done (we promise you don’t have to jump to another website or application)!

For this step, we’re going to assume you’re using InShot to edit your Instagram reel, but if you’re using a different application, the process is usually very similar.

Inside InShot, you’ll see three options listed under “Create New”: video, photo, and collage.

Select the “video” option and then select the Instagram reel that you saved to your device (if it doesn’t appear, you might have to allow the application to access your photos/videos).

After you select your Instagram Reel, it will open inside an editing page filled with options, such as crop, freeze, rotate, and more.

Of course, the option we’re going to use to reverse the audio on your Instagram Reel is the “reverse” option.

The process will take a few seconds to complete, but once it’s done, your Instagram reel’s audio will be successfully reversed, and you can perform any additional edits you want.

Before you exit this video editor, InShot will allow you to save this edited video back to your device so that you can reupload it to Instagram or any other social media of your choice.

Final Thoughts

While it might require more third-party applications and websites than you wanted, this process is guaranteed to give you a high-quality Instagram Reel with reversed audio every time.

Once you’ve done it a few times, you’ll be able to do this for any video within minutes.

That being said, if you want a way to reverse your video’s audio that only requires one app, an alternative would be to record your intended video on Snapchat.

This might seem odd since the video is for Instagram, but Snapchat has a native reverse feature that will allow you to reverse the audio without additional methods. You can then save and upload that video to your Instagram.
