The old Snipping Tool from the previous Windows version is replaced by Snip and Sketch in Windows 11.

But there is a way to get the Snipping Tool back on your Windows 11 PC. Keep reading to find out how you can get the Snipping Tool.

How do I restore the old Snipping Tool in Windows 11?

Restore the Snipping Tool from Windows.old

  • Open File Explorer.

  • Make a new folder called SnippingTool and save it anywhere on your system’s local drive.

  • Go to the path C:\Windows.old\Windows\System32

  • Copy the SnippingTool.exe file and paste it into the new folder that was created.

  • Now, create another folder inside the parent folder of Snipping Tool and name it en-US (or whatever your default language is).

  • Now, go to C:\Windows.old\Windows\System32\en-US

  • Copy and paste the SnippingTool.exe.mui file into the new en-US subfolder that you created.

  • Exit File Explorer after you are done.

When upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11, the Windows.old directory should be available on your system, and you should be able to restore the Snipping Tool by following the above-mentioned steps.

If you don’t find it, you can use the second method, which is a foolproof method to re-install it on your Windows computer that is running the latest Windows 11.

Or, you can also press CTRL + Shift + ESC to directly go to the Task Manager to end the task.

Why are Snip and Sketch not working?

Snip and Sketch can unexpectedly stop working due to the app’s data on the system or corrupt system files.

This can be easily resolved by simply uninstalling and re-installing the Snip and Sketch applications.
