Microsoft is continuously improving its newest version of Windows operating system by adding new features and options. As part of the latest update, Windows 11 users can now pin files to the Quick Access section of File Explorer for quick and easy access.

Up until now, the File Explorer Quick Access section showed only recent files and frequently opened folders. Users were allowed to pin only folders to Quick Access. With the new update, users can pin files to Quick Access and access their favorite files quickly.

The ability to pin files to Quick Access helps you keep the desktop tidy as most users save frequently accessed files on the desktop. They can now pin files to Quick Access instead.

IMPORTANT: This new feature is currently available to Windows 11 Insiders only.

NOTE 1: When you pin a file to Quick Access, the Windows 11 File Explorer adds a new Pinned files section to the Quick Access and shows pinned files there. The Pinned files section shows up just above the Recent files section.

NOTE 2: Pinned files does not appear in the navigation pane of Quick Access. Only pinned folders appear there.

Pin files to Quick Access in Windows 11

Step 1: Navigate to the folder containing the file that you want to pin to the Quick Access.

Step 2: Perform a right click on the file and then click the Pin to Quick Access option to pin the selected file to the Quick Access.

Note that you can select multiple files at once, right click on them and then click the Pin to Quick Access option if you wish to add multiple files to File Explorer Quick Access.

Unpin files from Quick Access in Windows 11

Step 1: Open the Quick Access section of File Explorer.

Step 2: Right click on the file that you want to remove from Quick Access and then click the Unpin from Quick Access option.

NOTE: If a pinned file is deleted from its original location, it will be automatically removed from the Pinned files section of Quick Access.
