With the outset of the pandemic, it doesn’t come as a surprise that most services will be made electronic. The Insurance Regulator Authority (IRA) of Uganda and Uganda Revenue Authority since 1st July 2020 has made mandatory the payment and insurance of motor 3rd party insurance through the mobile money platform.
In this guide, we’ll show you a step-by-step process on how to pay for your motor 3rd party insurance through Airtel Money and MTN Mobile Money. Keep in mind that when entering your vehicle registration number, you need not worry about the letter case and can even leave space between the digits.
Follow the steps below to pay for your motor 3rd-party insurance using mobile money in Uganda:
For Airtel Money
Step One: Dial *185# and choose option 4>Payment
Step Two: Select Option 7 for Financial services
Step Three: Select Option 6 for insurance
Step Four: Select Option 1 for Motor 3rd Party
Step Five: Enter your vehicle/motor-bike registration number
Step Six: Choose Option 1 to confirm the transaction
Step Seven: Enter your Airtel money PIN to confirm the transaction.

For MTN Mobile Money
Step One: Dial *165# and choose option 4>Payment
Step Two: Select Option 5 for Fees and Taxes
Step Three: Select Option 5-Motor 3rd Party
Step Four: Enter your vehicle/motor-bike registration number
Step Five: The vehicle details and amount due will show up next.
Step Six: Enter your mobile money PIN to confirm the transaction and the sticker reference number will be sent to you via SMS.
Step Seven: Write the reference number on your Insurance sticker on your motor and that’s it.
How to Get A Physical Reference Sticker to Display on Your Car
According to IRA Uganda, you can make your way to your insurance office or any insurance company of your choice. Present the sticker reference SMS and upon verification, they will issue for you a sticker for your motor.
