Almost every major web service has started offering two-step authentication for users to better protect their accounts from hackers and other attacks. Enabling two-step verification is the easiest way out there to  prevent others from accessing your account.

A couple of days ago, Twitter rolled out login verification or two-factor authentication update to help its users better protect their accounts with a few mouse clicks.

Once login verification is enabled for your account, whenever you try to log-in to your account by entering your username (or email address) and password, Twitter sends a secrete code to your contact number via SMS that you need to enter gain access to your account. So a person with just your account password can’t gain access to your account.

Please note that you need to have a confirmed email address as well as a verified phone number on your account to be able enable and use this login verification on your Twitter account. If you haven’t added your mobile number to your Twitter account yet, add your number first.

To add and confirm your mobile number:

Step 1: Sign-in to your Twitter account.

Step 2: Click the small Gear icon located at the upper-right of the page and then click Settings in the drop down menu.

Step 3: Click on the Mobile tab to switch to the same.

Step 4: Select your country from the drop down menu, enter your mobile number (without prefixing your country code), select your carrier, and then click Activate phone button to proceed.

Step 5: You will be asked to send text GO to 53000 number. Send the GO text to the Twitter number to complete adding your phone number to your Twitter account.

To add and confirm your email address:

Step 1: Sign-in to your account, click the Gear icon, and then click Settings to open your account settings page.

Step 2: In the email address box, enter the email address that you would like to add and verify (if you want to use old email address there, simply delete and type over it). Click Save changes button to save your email address.

Step 3:  You’ll be asked to enter your password. Type the password and click Save changes button to send a confirmation mail to your new email address.

Step 4: Sign-in to your email account to see a confirmation email from Twitter, click on the link provided in the email to confirm your email address. That’s it!

Complete the below mentioned steps to enable login verification or two-step verification on your account.

Step 1: Sign-in to your Twitter account using a web browser.

Step 2: Click the Gear icon located at the upper-right of the page and then click Settings option to open Account settings page.

Step 3: Scroll-down the page to see an option named Require a verification code when I sign in. Check the option and then click Okay, send me a message button to send a test message to your phone number to verify your phone can receive messages.

Step 4: If you have received the test message from Twitter, click the Yes button in the following screen.

Step 5: Finally, re-enter your Twitter password and click Save changes button to enable the login verification for your account. You’re done!

From now on, whenever you enter your Twitter username (or email) and password click Sign in button, a code will be send to your verified contact number and you will see a box to enter the verification code. Enter the verification code and then click Submit button to access your account.
